Northbound I-95 at Sunrise Boulevard closes 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3. Las Olas at Coral Way has reopened; Rio Vista and Hendricks Isle work starts Nov. 2.

Last checked Oct. 30, 2026. Updated weekly. Sources: the Florida Department of Transportation’s District 4 project pages and the City of Fort Lauderdale’s traffic advisories.

The biggest work on Fort Lauderdale roads right now is on the two drawbridges that carry traffic to the beach. FDOT has the East Las Olas Boulevard and Sunrise Boulevard bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway under rehabilitation at the same time, each with lanes shifted to one side. Interstates, U.S. 1, A1A and the numbered state roads are FDOT’s; the city looks after its own streets and posts its own closures.

Updated Oct. 30: FDOT closes every lane of northbound I-95 at Sunrise Boulevard from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, to 6 a.m. All lanes of East Las Olas Boulevard at Coral Way reopened Oct. 29. New city work starts Monday, Nov. 2, at SE 9th Avenue and SE 7th Street in Rio Vista and on Hendricks Isle.

  • I-95 northbound at Sunrise Boulevard, Tuesday, Nov. 3: all lanes closed 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for another deck pour, according to FDOT’s notice. The closure is at Exit 29B. Northbound express lane drivers exit at Hollywood Boulevard; the managed lanes entrance south of Stirling Road is closed and the next entrance is north of Cypress Creek Road, and the express lane ramps from eastbound I-595 and the Broward Boulevard Park & Ride are closed that night. The two beach bridges

On Las Olas, the bridge was closed for 48 hours from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 while crews set up the traffic shift. Since then all traffic uses the south side, one lane each way, and people on foot and bikes use the south sidewalk. FDOT is replacing the deck with an aluminum surface, painting the steel, replacing the span locks and fenders, and renovating the bridge tender house. FDOT points drivers to the 17th Street Causeway as the alternative route.

On Sunrise, the south bridge closed Sept. 3. Both directions now share the north bridge, two lanes each way, through early 2027. The work includes a new deck, new mechanical and electrical parts, a rebuilt south support wall, LED street lights and repaving.

Expect delays on both at peak hours, and more when the drawbridges open for boats.

What this means for you

  • Going to the beach? Las Olas and Sunrise both have fewer lanes over the Intracoastal; the 17th Street Causeway is the alternative FDOT names.
  • Driving I-95 north through Fort Lauderdale at night? Every northbound lane closes at Sunrise Boulevard from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, until 6 a.m. Use the detour above or plan around it.
  • Check 511 before a trip on I-95 or I-595; overnight ramp and lane closures change weekly.
  • Driving downtown or through Rio Vista? SE 3rd Avenue still has sewer lane closures south of Broward Boulevard, and the SE 9th Avenue and SE 7th Street intersection closes from Monday, Nov. 2.
  • Live near NW 15th Avenue, NW 23rd Avenue, SW 14th Street, SE 10th Avenue, Hendricks Isle or Broward Boulevard at SE 15th Avenue? Plan around the dated closures above.
  • Live on a low street near the water? King tides run through Saturday, Oct. 31, and return Nov. 5-11 and Nov. 22-28, the city said. Check the king tide peak times before you drive, and never drive through standing water.
